Community Based-Liaison Officers of the Public Independent Conciliator on Tuesday, 29th May 2025 presented their first semester reports to the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Motaze. This happened during a meeting held at the Conference Room of the institution. The meeting was an occasion for the Public Independent Conciliator to assess the provision of routine and development services carried out by local authorities in their respective municipalities on one hand and also evaluate the sensitization activities of Liaison officers concerning OPIC.
Speaking while opening the meeting, the Public Independent Conciliator commended the Liaison Officers for their efforts and enormous sacrifices as regards the security climate of the South-West Region. She went further to urge liaison officers still lingering behind in the exercise of their functions to sit up and take their assignment seriously.
It was observed during the presentation of the reports by Liaison Officers that, though some middlemen loitering in some council premises extort large sums of money from users who come to obtain civil status documents, some local authorities have made progress in issuing these vital documents free of charge as stipulated by the law. The disposal of waste especially in urban municipalities was identified to remain a major call for concern. In terms of local development, while localities of some municipalities in the rural areas now have portable drinking water like Bachuo Akagbe in Tinto subdivision, others like Talangaye in Nguti municipality still lack markets. At the end of the meeting, the Public Independent Conciliator tasked the Community Based Liaison Officers to continue sensitizing the population on the missions of OPIC as well as on the free issuance of Civil Status Documents.
